Rome D2

Breakfast at the hotel opposite ours

the old type of lift in the hotel...

First stop: Colosseum

I dun remember coming in here and having such a wow kind of feeling 10 years ago

Daddy came more ard 10 years ago too..
It is interesting to visit these place again after such a long time..
And we never really imagined that we would come again with our better half..

Us..
I have this urge to dig out my old photo albums and compare the photos

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre
The largest Amphitheatre of the Roman Empire, and it could hold between 50,000 to 80,000 spectators
It was used for gladiatorial contests. It sounded quite scary and I really could not imagine watching animals fight with men.. and u call that entertainment

Visiting the museum p

The holes in the wall were due to pple in the Middle Ages plundering the iron clamp which held the stones together, and used to make Medieval weapons. Read somewhere that these were also holes used to extract the lead and iron

Close up of the structures previously with a pulley system so there is a lift at each compartment to lift the animals to the stage for the fight

The pple were previously seated in a tiered arrangement that reflected the rigidly stratified nature of ROman society
Special boxes were provided for the Emperor.
The tiers above were occupied by the noble class or knights, and the next level up for the ordinary citizens

Someone was really kind and offered to take a photo for us, and waited till the crowd cleared the area

More photos of the holes in the wall

The exterior of the Colosseum which suffered extensive damage over the centuries, with large segments having collapsed following earthquakes

:)

The Roman Forum, a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It was previously referred to as the marketplace

It was the center of Roman public life for centuries

More of the ruins.. could imagine how life was back then

Such a large place, that the photos could not capture the wow effects of it

Romans seem to think that hyenas are magical animals, so its body will have all sorts of magical effects

Plaza del Campidoglio is one of Roman's most beautiful squares, designed by Michelangelo

La Bocca della Verita, located in the church of Santa maria
It is believed to be a lie detector. It was once believed that if tell a lie with your hand in the mouth of the sculpture, your hand would be bitten off

The pantheon

The dome with a central opening
It features sunken panels in five rings of 28. This evenly spaced layout was difficult to acheive

Inside the pantheon

Rain falling into the interior would run off the convex floor to the drainpipes underneath

Daddy really liked this place and was fascinated by the structures

Saw this gelato shop with lots of pple inside
Decided to try and it was indeed hard to decide with so many different flavours to choose from!

Caught unaware.. could not wait to start eating
The dark chocolate was excellent!!!

Another nice dinner at a German restaurant

My pork knuckle

And the sausages
Yet another great dinner!!!
